Life-Centered vs. Profit/Ideology-Centered Views

There is much talk about the different global splits we are seeing today: North vs. South, Christian vs. Muslim, Moderates vs. Fundamentalists, Pro-Bush vs. Anti-Bush, etc.

One that goes even deeper, and is not frequently focused on in the media, is the split between a life-centerd vs. a profit/ideology-centered view.

The life-centered view is maybe best expressed by the Cultural Creatives. It weaves together strands from many movements evolved over the last decades: social justice/peace, ecology, holistic health and consiousness. At it's best, it is pragmatic and seeks solutions beyond traditional divisions and ideologies. It focuses on direction rather than perfection.

The profit-centered view is most clearly expressed in neo-liberal globalization (going above government control to establish international rules that benefits corporations and few others). It is a fallacy of narrowmindedness. They do not bring the whole Earth and deep time into their circle of concern.

And the ideology-centered view is expressed anywhere ideas becomes more important than people and life in general. It is a rigid view, maybe most clearly expressed in fundamentalists of any stripe. It is a fallacy of rigid attachment to ideas, not realizing that the terrain is always different from the map.
