Any living system needs good feedback loops to survive. We need information about the effects of our actions so we can adjust our approach, and this information needs to be full and accurate.
In society, when actions benefit the few but not the many, the few will - in any way they can - prevent feedback about the consequences of these actions. Currently, the US government is doing this in many areas.
Banning photos of cascets of dead US soldiers is just one (and one where they know they won't be able to uphold the ban very well).
