Shadow II

In an odd way, the intentions of Bush (as judged from his actions) and those behind 911 are aligned. The expressed and excplicit goal for those behind 911 is to create a rift between the Islamic and western worlds. Bush is furthering this through his own policies.

The only effective way to diffuse terrorism (it can of course never be eliminated), is to (a) bring those behind it to court through the international justice system (no wars needed for that), and (b) diffuse the causes of terrorism: poverty and injustice. (both promoted through the US foreign policies over the last several decades).

Terrorist networks are distributed and non-localized. Wars are geographically focused and limited. It goes without saying that wars cannot and will not reduce terrorism but only fuels it through increased resentment towards the US.

Having seen the irrational reactions of the US people and politicians following 911, it may well be that another terrorist operation will be timed to influence the presidential election. Those behind 911 cannot hope for a president more aligned with their own intentions than Bush. And they know how the US population - in their odd irrationality - will support the sitting president following such an incident.
